MORE THAN 450 SENIOR ATHLETES INVOLVED IN IN COMMON SPORTS + ACTIVITIES

2022/04/29

After 2 years of greater difficulties in promoting the activities of the In Common Sports+ project: Fit, Food and Fun! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the consortium partners are currently developing the program at cruising speed. After the initial assessments made to athletes in 2021, still with restrictions in some countries, more than 450 senior athletes are currently attending the weekly training sessions in the six countries involved in the project: Portugal, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Hungary and Bulgaria. During March and April, the athletes answered a questionnaire about nutritional habits within the scope of the intellectual output n. 5 under the guidance of the municipality of Cesena. The main objective is to promote a healthy lifestyle among the elderly in two ways: encourage physical activity through traditional games and team games and analyse eating habits to prevent some problems related to aging.

In the first quarter of 2022, the partner “Escola Superior de Desporto e Lazer” presented the interim report on the activities of the 2021 project, highlighting that from the analysis of the reasons that lead seniors to practice physical exercise, it is possible to verify that the recognition factor is the least important. On the other hand, the fitness factor seems to play an important role in being involved in physical activity. Despite this, from a general point of view, there is a strong motivation on the part of the interviewees to practice physical exercise.
During the next few months, the second physical fitness assessments will be carried out in all countries using the battery of tests prepared for the purpose of seniors.More than 450 senior athletes involved in IN COMMON SPORTS + activities
